"Helmut Newton for press freedom : soon in Japan"
Reporters Without Borders is paying tribute to imprisoned journalists and is publishing a new book of photographs, "Helmut Newton for Press Freedom."

RSF brings out this book to support the 133 journalists who are in prison around the world.

Since 1989, RSF has appealed to media in France and elsewhere to sponsor individual journalists who have been thrown in prison for doing their job. While the world's attention was focused on Baghdad last March, Fidel Castro arrested 28 journalists and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from 14 to 28 years, thereby turning Cuba into the world's biggest jail for journalists. Iran is the largest prison for journalists in the Middle East, rivalling Burma in Asia and Eritrea in Africa. China is the world's biggest prison for cyber-dissidents, with 36 currently held.

Helmut Newton for Press Freedom is sold for the benefit of imprisoned journalists

The public is invited to discover the latest Reporters Without Borders book of photos, dedicated to the work of Helmut Newton, who is famous for the glossy precision of his photographs and the surprising and sometimes shocking contexts he chooses for his models. He often takes his inspiration from daily newspapers, real life or the work of paparazzi.

The book, with 80 photographs and a preface by French writer Yves Simon, is a new opportunity for Reporters Without Borders to remind the public of the need to actively support press freedom. (NEXT)
